Andy Guard, PhD

US Soccer Men's Youth Team Sport Scientist

    Andy has worked as a sport scientist for the US Soccer Federation for the past three years. He began his career as an applied sports scientist for the National Women’s Soccer League (NWSL) as well as the US Women’s Senior and Youth National Teams. After two years he transitioned into his current role as the sports scientist for U20-U18 US Men’s National Teams. Prior to this, Andy worked as football physiologist at Aspire Academy and Qatar Football Association in Doha, Qatar. He also worked as the sports scientist at Celtic Football Club in Scotland for five years, mainly working across development and first team squads.

    Andy graduated from Durham University in 2006. He earned his Master’s Degree in Sport Science and Performance in Football from University of Hull in 2010 and completed PhD in Sport Science from University of Glasgow in 2017, focusing on training load and GPS monitoring in elite youth soccer.
