Headspace; Head of Sports & Fitness
When it comes to being dedicated to the pursuit of athletic excellence through harnessing the power of the mind, Lindsay Shaffer is working to create the future of sports. Over the years, she has shaped her career around a passion for Sports and Wellness, which is why her current role — Head of Sports and Fitness at Headspace — is right up her alley. With more than 42 million downloads across 190 countries, leading meditation and mindfulness app, Headspace, helps its members build healthy routines into their daily lives with hundreds of sessions ranging from focus, motivation, and recovery to stress and anxiety. Headspace works with several professional athletes and Headspace’s sports partnerships currently include the NBA, Nike, USA Swimming and Gloucester Rugby.
After studying Pre-Med and Psychology at the University of Notre Dame — where she also served as Captain of the Varsity Lacrosse Team — Lindsay set off on a career in collegiate athletic administration, earning a Master’s of Higher Education Administration at USC, and then working with student-athletes in the USC and Stanford Athletic Departments. Five years in college athletics left Lindsay wanting to take things to the next level — to bring the gift of sport to all people, not just elite athletes. So she earned an MBA at UCLA Anderson with the goal of working at Nike, where she ended up working for almost three years. There, she created the strategy for Nike’s Global Running category before leaving in 2017 to join Headspace. Lindsay dedicates her expertise to shaping a future where all athletes understand the importance of mental training for athletic success; a time when athletes will train their mind before and after every training session and competition.
