Phil Lewis, MS, RD, CSSD, CSCS

Director of Sports Nutrtion, University of Arizona

    Phil Lewis joined the University of Arizona in September of 2016 and works as the Director of Sports Nutrition. Lewis oversees all the nutritional needs for Arizona athletes and teams.

    Prior to joining the Wildcats Lewis worked with the Chicago Cubs organization, working as a sports nutrition consultant for the short A affiliate Eugene Emeralds. Lewis established a nutrition presence in the clubhouse, making an emphasis on how simple natural foods can fuel the athlete. Lewis oversaw the planning of the team’s pre and post-game meals; as well provided any other nutrition information to players and staff as needed.

    Lewis also worked as an assistant sports dietitian at the University of Oregon; where he primarily oversaw the nutritional needs for Oregon’s arena sports along with both tennis programs, and softball. Lewis focused on educating athletes on sound performance nutrition practices and provided nutritional resources for proper practice and competition fueling.

    Prior to joining the Ducks, Lewis started his career as a graduate assistant in sports nutrition at the University of Arkansas, where he helped implement and grow the new sports nutrition program. Lewis oversaw the nutritional needs for 17 varsity sports helping with nutrition education and the running of several fueling programs.

    Lewis also spent a short time at IMG Academy as a summer nutrition coach in Bradenton, FL. Where he primarily taught the foundation of nutrition principals to the up and coming athletes but also assisted with one on one consults for college and professional athletes.

    A 2011 graduate from the University of Arizona with a degree in Dietetics, Lewis earned his Master’s degree in Dinesiology from the University of Arkansas in 2015.

    He and his wife, Rachael and daughter Adelyn, reside in Tucson.
