Robert Butler, PhD, DPT

Director of Performance, St. Louis Cardinals

    Dr. Butler is beginning his third season in Major League Baseball with the St. Louis Cardinals. As the Director of Performance, he oversees the medical operations, physical training and nutritional supplementation for the St. Louis Cardinals and all affiliates.

    Prior to joining the Cardinals, he served as an Assistant Professor and Associate Director of the Michael W. Krzyzewski Human Performance Laboratory at Duke University for 5-1/2 years. He is a native of Wilmington, Delaware and a graduate of Marietta College where he earned his Bachelor’s in Biology, Springfield College where he earned his M.S. in Biomechanics and Movement Science, and the University of Delaware where he earned his Ph.D. in Biomechanics. Following his doctoral training, he completed a post-doc at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and also completed his Doctorate in Physical Therapy at the University of Evansville. Dr. Butler has co-authored 200+ abstracts presented at professional meetings and has published 75+ peer reviewed papers.
